A coloring hour for Thanksgiving
Plan the coloring hour for the week of the feast. Print the scarecrow in Regular and Bold, set out the oranges, golds, and browns, and hand a page or two to each of the people you serve.
Read the Story Starter once, slowly, then wait. Pie, stuffing, or a dish nobody else has heard of: every answer is right, and the next question is an easy one. Who made it best?
Hum “Over the River and Through the Wood” while they color, or let the table be quiet. Sign and date the pages they’re proud of.
“What's the one dish that had to be on the Thanksgiving table?”
Three steps, about an hour
- Print both versions of the same drawing, Regular and Bold, on plain letter paper.
- Hand out a page or two to each person, wherever they are: the table, a lounge chair, a bedside.
- Read the Story Starter aloud while they color. Then wait.
Bold has thicker lines and fewer tiny details, easier to see and easier to finish. Everyone colors the same picture.

Good to know
How do I run a coloring activity?
Print the same drawing in Regular and Bold, and hand pages out wherever people are, even at a bedside. Read the Story Starter once, slowly, then wait longer than feels comfortable. Never correct a memory. Sign and date the ones they're proud of.
Which version should each person get?
Choose by the person and the day. Regular suits a long, quiet sit. Bold has thicker, darker lines and fewer tiny details, so it's easier to see and finish. Same picture either way, so no one gets "the easy page."
Can we show a page on our activity calendar or newsletter?
Yes, in print: calendars, newsletters, bulletin boards, and handouts. The license doesn't cover posting pages publicly online, including social media.
